Injector Installation

Injectors are physical or virtual machines that execute your tests. The injector software is installed with Eggplant Performance by default. However, in many cases, you will need to install additional injectors separately on other machines.

Note: Injectors do not require a license to operate.

System Requirements

The machine resources required for an Eggplant Performance load injector is dependent on the VU types, test scripts, and other variables. As a (very) rough guide, to support up to 1000 web VUs, we recommend the following system resource minimums for an injector installation:

2 GHz multi-core processor
4 GB RAM
2 MB for a stand-alone injector (though more space will be required for running tests as the engines and various libraries will be transmitted to the injector at run-time) , or 150 MB of free disk space on the installation drive if you install Eggplant Performance Studio (Windows only) plus injector.
1 GB of space if you want to use the Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Thus, you should only install OCR if you are going to use it.
You must also have disk space available for recordings and test run data. This data can range from a few kilobytes to many gigabytes, depending upon the test run options selected, the level of logging, the duration of your test runs and the number of simulated VUs.

Virtual User Support

Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac machines can all be used to run as injectors, but are restricted as to which types of VUs they can execute.

Web Java and .NET based Virtual Users (Web C#, Citrix, and WinDriver)

These VUs can run only on Microsoft Windows platforms, and the full .NET Framework 4.5 must be present.

Java (non-Web) Virtual Users

On Windows or Linux injectors, no additional prerequisites are needed, as 32-bit Java JRE version 1.7 is installed with the product.

The Java platform must be installed separately for Mac machines. A different Java JDK/JRE may be selected after Eggplant Performance has been installed.

Note: 64-bit Java is not supported for Java Web Virtual User execution but can be used for other Java Virtual User types.
